Waldspirale, Darmstadt
Located about 2.5 kilometers from Darmstadt city center is The Waldspirale - a residential building complex designed by Austrian artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser. The distinguishable feature of this building is its unique facade. Unlike other apartments, it is not uniform and symmetrical. It looks irregular and doesn't follow a specific pattern. Hundertwasser is said to have chosen the color combinations with earthy tones and design to reflect the layers of soil found beneath the building.

Some of the unique features of this building that separate it from all the other buildings are:
-It has more than 1000 windows, and each is different from the other.
-Even the handles attached to the doors and windows of each apartment are different from each other.
-The roof is constructed with recycled concrete and is planted with linden, beech, and maple trees.
-A playground and an artificial river are part of the garden inside.
- Some apartments are decorated in Friedensreich Hundertwasser's style, which is exhibited with colorful tiles in the bath and kitchen.
The gilded onion domes, the absence of straight lines and sharp corners, the multicolored facade, and the colorful ceramic columns together make this building distinctive.
The building also houses a restaurant, more details about which can be found here:
Waldspirale is certainly a noteworthy structure in Darmstadt. It is easily reachable using public transport and is very close to the city center.
